Granum

The Town of Granum was first incorporated as the "Village of Leavings" where cattle were loaded onto trains to leave for eastern markets on July 12, 1904. The original name of "Leavings" came from the fact that this was the point where the Macleod-Calgary Trail left Willow Creek. The name of the community was later changed to Granum in 1907. "Granum" is the Latin word for Grain. The community was made a Town on November 7, 1910 and has kept its status as a town since that time. The town is conveniently located at the junction of Highway 2 and Highway 519, east of the beautiful Porcupine Hills and is an excellent hub location, close to all major tourist sites in Southwest Alberta. Granum is a community with a rich history.
